NMTA’s Grow Boating committee is pleased to report it has awarded 10 grants of $1,000 each to Pacific Northwest organizations for 2024.
“Access to boating is often restricted by a lack of funds or connections or both,” says Mike Kirshenbaum, sales manager, Union Marine, NMTA board member and chair of the Grow Boating committee. “This year’s grantees all help remove those barriers in a variety of ways — from providing scholarships to their programs to low income, disadvantaged youth or underserved communities to conducting free introductory boating classes or low cost clinics, and much more. We’re very pleased to once again be able to spread our funds across a variety of programs.”
The organizations receiving grants are:

- Community Boating Center
- Footloose Sailing Association
- Gig Harbor Junior Sailing
- Grays Harbor Historical Seaport
- Lhaq’temish Foundation
- Renton Sailing Center
- Schooner Martha Foundation
- Sisters in Action Sports
- Sound Experience (Schooner Adventuress)
Since 2003, NMTA has spent more than $2 million through its Grow Boating program to promote boating in the Pacific Northwest through various events, sponsorships, grants, and programs. In the past eight years alone, 66 boating organizations have received grant funding from this program.
