Boats of Note Afloat on South Lake Union

More than 150 boats in their native habitat on South Lake Union

SEATTLE— January 15, 2010 — A key component of the 63rd Annual Seattle Boat Show, January 29 - February 6, is the opportunity to experience more than 150 world-class yachts in their native habitat, afloat on South Lake Union. Ranging in size from 23 feet to 143 feet, there are cabin cruisers, sailboats, trawlers and mega yachts for boating enthusiasts of all persuasions to choose from. Whether you're an experienced boater or just getting your feet wet, climb aboard, kick some anchors and check out the variety that the Lake Union portion of the show has to offer

In addition to the floating portion of the show, there are 1,000 recreational watercraft, 200+ seminars and the latest innovations in accessories indoors at the Qwest Field Event Center. Taking it all in has never been easier. A free shuttle runs continuously between both locations (Qwest Field Event Center and South Lake Union). Buy your tickets online (www.seattleboatshow.com) and parking at Qwest Field is free.

Boats of Note Afloat

Power

Devotion
At 143 feet she is the largest boat in the show. The Devotion is set up to accommodate 12 guests and eight crew. The brand new interior reflects European styling. Exquisite Brazilian hardwoods and Italian marble surfaces abound complemented by designer fabrics. The master stateroom comes with its own Jacuzzi tub.

Diesel Duck 462
Built by Sea Horse Marine in China these small sturdy ships are made to travel anywhere in the world. They have the range and are very capable of world passage and have done such. One recently traveled from the Sea Horse yard in China to San Francisco without any additional fuel being needed. The many watertight bulkheads with water tight doors and other safety items let these trips take place with a high degree of safety.

Sabre 40 Sedan
This is a West Coast debut from the renowned Maine yacht builder. Not only is this motor yacht a new model from Sabre, the technology is what really sets it apart. Using the Cummins Zeus Drive system, this boat achieves performance, 20% better fuel economy, and features like “Sky Hook” positioning which traditional boats cannot offer.

Selene 66
The 66’ Selene is currently the flagship for the Selene family. This particular 66’ represent’s both the owner’s creativity and the shipyard’s know-how. She is powered with a pair of John Deere 6081 375hp engines for efficient and effortless cruising. Her wall-to-wall teak interior is finished off in a traditional satin finish with exquisite joinery work throughout typical of Selene. The layout features three staterooms forward with a full beam master plus an optional crew quarters aft.

Sail

Bavaria 38
The Bavaria Cruiser 38 is the result of small incremental changes over the years by J&J design. With guaranteed humidity and temperature control the hull quality is unprecedented. All furniture parts are produced to exact specifications by CNC systems. The 40hp Volvo diesel with Saildrive pushes her to about 7.8 knots and she cruises comfortably at 6.5. Large berths fore and aft have generous standing room and the salon permits seating for up to eight. The electrical panel is of the new generation touch-pad where as the switches silently light up when depressed.

Beneteau 31
The Beneteau 31 is a Berret/Raccoupeau design with interior styling by Nauta Design of
Italy and built by Beneteau USA in Marion, South Carolina. This beautiful 31 footer feature two private staterooms and sleeps up to six. Yanmar Diesel power and a classic rig make for fun while coastal cruising. The Beneteau 31 was elected European Yacht of the Year in the Family Cruiser class, by a jury of journalists from 10 specialized European magazines.

Hunter 41
The Hunter 41 is a Deck Salon model with a raised cabin top for a huge and brightly lit main cabin living area. This is a wonderful boat for Pacific Northwest cruising as you have a terrific view in the islands. The Hunter 41 is easy to sail with its B & R rig, furling
mainsail and genoa. According to Cruising World editor Nim Marsh, “I stepped off this Hunter impressed. The 41 DS seems to cover many bases and includes many details in an attractive package that really works.”

Oyster 54
The new Oyster 54, designed for comfort and performance, lived up to her pedigree with a convincing overall win at Oyster’s recent Antigua Regatta and is making her US premiere at the Seattle Boat Show. The Oyster 54 carries more sail on a longer waterline than her predecessor the 53, and is somewhat lighter thanks to the use of a cored hull above the waterline and advanced composite engineering. Other significant improvements include a cockpit that is around 25% longer and substantially wider than that of the 53.

Boater’s Happy Hour At South Lake Union
While at the lake, enjoy a special Boater's Happy Hour all day, every day of the Seattle Boat Show. Receive a free appetizer when you show your admission wristband or hand-stamp (one appetizer per table) from the following Lake Union restaurants: Chandler’s Crabhouse, Daniel's Broiler and Joey’s.

Seattle Boat Show Arranges Special Travel Packages For Canadians Left Adrift By Cancellation of Vancouver Boat Show

Special packages include transportation, boat show tickets and hotel packages

SEATTLE – January 14, 2010 – The recent cancellation of the 2010 Vancouver International Boat Show (VIBS) left many boaters adrift. (The cancellation was due to scheduling conflicts with a roof replacement project at host venue BC Place.) Happily, the Seattle Boat Show (Friday January 29 through Saturday February 6, 2010) has stepped into this void. For boaters and would-be boaters in Canada, show organizers struck an amazing deal with Clipper Vacations for three customizable packages, all of which include transportation to Seattle, a stay at a downtown Seattle hotel and admission tickets to the Seattle Boat Show. The packages start at as little as $USD120. Book your stay at the Crowne Plaza Seattle Hotel and transportation to the boat show from the hotel is also included. Details are available at: http://www.seattleboatshow.com/travel-deals.html

“All those boaters in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island that love boats, want to be around boats, want to look at boats and boating gear and won’t have a wintertime show in Vancouver, won’t be disappointed if they come down to Seattle” said George Harris, president, Northwest Marine Trade Association. “Our show offers a huge variety of exhibitors, boats, accessories and exciting promotions.”

The Seattle Boat Show drops anchor on Friday January 29 and continues through Saturday February 6, 2010. The West Coast’s largest boat show features 1,000 recreational watercraft, seminars and the latest innovations in accessories at the Qwest Field Event Center, plus 150 world-class yachts in their natural habitat on South Lake Union, with a free shuttle running between both locations. Unique to the Seattle Boat Show is the large variety of boats on display. At other shows, you may find yourself in a sea of bass boats or wakeboard boats. At the Seattle show, the boats on display are representative of the wide range of boating available in the region. The Pacific Northwest and British Columbia are home to perhaps the largest variety of boating in the world – whether it’s wakeboarding on the inland lakes, salmon fishing on Puget Sound or off Vancouver Island, sailing in the San Juan or Gulf Islands, kayaking in the streams and rivers, or cruising to Alaska. Every type of boating available in the region is on display at the Seattle Boat Show.

Arctic Explorer, Boat and Crew to be Spotlight Exhibit at 2010 Seattle Boat Show

Emmy award-winning filmmaker Sprague Theobald and his Nordhavn 57 at South Lake Union after 5 month epic journey through Northwest Passage

The Seattle Boat Show, Indoors + Afloat is pleased to announce that the renowned 57-foot Nordhavn, Bagan, which took owner Sprague Theobald safely through the Northwest Passage on a five month epic journey, will be a feature exhibit at the 2010 Seattle Boat Show January 29-February 6, 2010. Bagan will be showcased on the water at South Lake Union and highlights will include tours of Bagan given by members of the crew responsible for bringing the vessel across the Arctic Circle – a feat accomplished by very few private boats. Each person that takes a tour will also receive a DVD with video footage from this extraordinary adventure. Additionally Theobold will be conducting seminars at Qwest Field Event Center throughout the nine day show where he’ll focus on the craziest, scariest and most exhilarating moments of the trip.

Aside from seeking out great adventure, Theobald’s mission for traversing the elusive passage was to document the little-explored area – which he did with incredible underwater photography as well as with recording and editing equipment custom outfitted in Bagan’s pilothouse. The Emmy-award winning film producer/director is currently logging and editing more than 250 hours of HD video footage and audio diaries captured during the voyage for his movie Braving The Northwest Passage which will be his 5th full-length documentary. He has received interest in it from several major broadcast outlets. But visitors to the boat can get a sneak preview; trailers of the film will be on hand for anyone who comes aboard. Additional information about the film along with his daily blogs from throughout the trip are still available online at www.NorthwestPassageFilm.com

Bagan’s expedition covered 8,500 miles and included many dramatic events that pitted the crew against foul weather, technical issues, icebergs the size of Manhattan skyscrapers, wildlife encounters, personality conflicts, and so on. Notable was a harrowing two day experience where the boat was trapped and frozen in. They tried everything to escape and at one point the boat was being driven towards a rocky coast and the crew prepared to abandon ship. This and much more was captured in 250-hours of stunning high-definition video footage – including underwater shots, surreal landscapes, active glaciers, wildlife, and historical landmarks including grave sites from the doomed Franklin Expedition of 1845.

“It was worth the risk, but I would not do it again.” Theobald stated in an interview with Yachting Magazine. "We have yet to talk publicly about the more terrifying moments of the trip." MotorBoating Magazine also captured the expedition in a 4-part series. In addition to sharing details of this trip – some for the first time ever publically – Theobald will take questions from the audience. (Seminar dates TBA.
