Northwest Salmon Derby Series

Perhaps the most visible element of the Grow Boating program, the Northwest Salmon Derby Series promotes fishing throughout the region by partnering with existing derbies and marketing those events through targeted advertising, public relations and promotional materials.

First started in 2004, the Northwest Salmon Derby Series has grown from including six derbies to 14 in 2008. The Derby Series brings additional prizes to these derbies including the opportunity to win a new fully-equipped aluminum fishing boat with an outboard motor and trailer. The boat is awarded in a drawing at the final derby each September.

In order to win the grand prize boat, an angler can fill out a Northwest Salmon Derby Series ticket at any of the ten derbies. Every angler’s name, address and telephone number will be entered, free, into the drawing during the derbies. For example, if an angler entered at all six derbies, their name would be entered six times, whether they caught any salmon or not. Anglers who place in 1st through 5th standings, at each derby, will receive an additional three tickets for the drawing. Places six through 10 will receive two additional tickets. Again, registration for the drawing will occur at each of the derby headquarters during the events. Remember, in order to win the grand prize boat, purchase of a derby ticket is not required. One entry per person, per derby, to win Northwest Salmon Derby Series boat.

The 14 derbies included in the Northwest Salmon Derby Series are as follows:

  • Roche Harbor Salmon Classic, February 7-9
  • Discovery Bay Salmon Derby, February 16-18
