REGIONAL The Grow Boating Program serves the NMTA's core purpose — to increase the number of boaters in the Northwest. Since 2003, NMTA has spent more than $1.5M million to promote boating in the Pacific Northwest. The NMTA's Grow Boating program is funded through a surcharge on square footage rented during the Seattle Boat Show each January.
The NMTA Grow Boating Committee oversees the management and allocation of NMTA's regional Grow Boating fund, and determines what programs, events and promotions should be undertaken to encourage boating in the Northwest. The Committee is open to all current NMTA members and participation is an excellent way to shape the direction of the nation's largest regionally focused Grow Boating effort.
The Northwest Salmon Derby Series, started in 2004, partners with fishing derbies throughout the region to increase recreational fishing participation and opportunities. Details at www.NorthwestSalmonDerbySeries.com.
Promotes sailing opportunities and events through sponsorship of the Downtown Sailing Series summer events. Each Thursday during the summer, NMTA coordinates free boat rides out of Elliott Bay Marina on boats provided by NMTA member businesses.
Promotes boating and the many boating activities available through ongoing innovative giveaways, event partnerships and sponsorships that provide a venue to showcase the boating lifestyle.
#IWANTABOATGIVEAWAY encouraging participants to take a photo of themselves next to the promo boat or ANY boat and post it on their social network(s) with the hashtag #iwantaboat.
Supports the coverage of positive boating stories in local and regional media (TV, radio, print, web) through a comprehensive public relations campaign between May and August.
Makes a portion of the Grow Boating fund available to outside groups, organizations or businesses who have their own ideas and programs to help promote boating to youth and adults. See Grow Boating Grants
